Asking the question if God will still love us when we feel unloved by others alludes to the idea that God’s love is set aside for certain people. Most of the time when we ask if God loves everyone, we’re really asking two other questions too: “Does God’s love have limits?” and “Does God love me?”

We must clarify in our hearts and minds that God is love first and then accept that God loves us.

To understand God is love is to recognize the difference between…

1. Love as an  vs Love as a  .

Larry Hart, author and professor of theology, writes in his book Truth Aflame, “This passage (1 John 4:7-16) has to be one of the simplest and yet most profound statements in all the Bible, not only concerning the nature of God but also concerning the essence of Christian faith and life and the assurance of salvation.”

In 1 John 4:8, we read “God is love.” If we mistake “love” for “loving,” or as a simple adjective, we miss the point. Love here is a noun. It is a state of being.

Craig R. Koester, in his Commentary writes, “The love that defines who God is, finds expression in what God does through the sacrificial death of his Son.

One of the core ways that we are shown to be children of God is that we love others when others don’t love us. Love is the core characteristic in the spiritual DNA of those who know God.
