Merriam-Webster dictionary defines the word ordinance as “an authoritative decree or direction,” as well as a “prescribed usage, practice, or ceremony.”

Romans 6:3-7

Baptism is an outward sign of an inward change. This symbol of baptism for the believer is a spiritual participation in the physical death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Like commencement, baptism is a public declaration that work has been completed in us through the blood of Jesus: the forgiveness of our sins (Acts 2:38), and our eternal fellowship as members of the body of Christ (Galatians 4:1–7).

In many cultures around the world, breaking bread and drinking together is a sign of friendship and peace.

When we come together as a church to celebrate the Lord’s Supper, we aren’t just remembering what Christ did for us on the cross; we’re also celebrating the friendship, peace, and fulfillment we are meant to find in the body of Christ.

Communion is a celebration and act of worship meant for those who profess faith in Christ through participating in the death with Christ through baptism.
