Follow Along with the Message

Kyle Idelman author of “Not a Fan” says, “One of the reasons our churches can become fan factories is that we have separated the message of ‘believe’ from the message ‘follow’.”

The dictionary defines a ‘fan’ as “an enthusiastic admirer and usually a spectator.”

The dictionary says that a follower is ‘one in the service of, follows the teachings of, or imitates another.’

Followers understand they must…

1. Be in His Presence

In a world of “do,” Jesus wants us to first “be.”

Spiritual growth is intentional, not automatic.

2. Boldly Proclaim His Truth

When someone says this is my truth what they are really saying is this is my opinion. The Bible is our source for truth.

3. Believe in Your Calling

Qualification is not about education but transformation. God doesn’t call the qualified; He qualifies the CALLED!”

Following Jesus requires more than having a social media relationship.

It’s easy to add Jesus as a friend on Facebook or like his fan page; it’s much more difficult to be a follower.
