We can trust that the promise we received through the resurrection of Christ is as true today as it was on the first Resurrection Sunday.

One of Merriam-Webster’s definitions of a promise is “a legally binding declaration that gives the person to whom [the promise] is made a right to expect or to claim the performance or forbearance of a specified act.”

The resurrection promise God fulfilled is…

1. The Promise of an  .

According to Peter, God’s resurrection promise is twofold: (1) as children of God, we have a future inheritance that cannot be stolen away or lost, and (2) our lives are being guarded through faith by the power of God himself.

The word used for inheritance here means “what is given to one as a possession, heirship.”

2. The Promise to Be    .

The promise of the resurrection isn’t just for the future. It’s for our present too.

The world may make its own promises to you: fame, notoriety, wealth, money, life. But it is only the promises of God which will last forever.
