What kind of church do we want to be?  What is our bottom line?

 

     "Persevere in these things, for as you do this you will ensure SALVATION both for yourself and for those who hear you."--v. 16

 

Salvation--God's great work!

 

Sozo--umbrella word.  Justification, sanctification, glorification.  All of it.

 

     "The Son of Man came to seek and to SAVE the lost."--Luke 19:10

 

     "And the Lord was adding to their number day by day those who were being SAVED."--Acts 2:47

 

 

--DEFEND THE TRUTH (WITH JOY)--vs. 1-5

 

     "Everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with gratitude; for it is sanctified by means of the word of God and prayer."--vs. 4-5

 

     "God provided us with everything for us to enjoy."--1 Timothy 6:17

 

     Center of the church--Pastor and people, Scripture and prayer, unity and joy!

 

 

--DECLARE THE TRUTH (WITH BOLDNESS)--vs. 11-16

 

     Don't let people look down on you--v. 12.  Don't be silent--v. 11.  Read Scripture and then preach on it--v. 13.  Don't neglect your Spiritual gift--v. 14.  Take pains with these things--v. 15.  Make progress-- v. 15.

 

     "I am not ashamed of the gospel."--Romans 1:16

 

 

--DISCIPLINE YOURSELF (FOR GODLINESS)--vs. 6-10

 

     eusebomai--eu, "good, well"; sebo, "to worship, adore."  Well worshipped.

 

     Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength.

 

     gymnazo--to exercise, discipline, work out

     "Let your light so shine that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in Heaven."--Matthew 5:16
