Focusing on the biblical principle of Sabbath observance encourages us to lay down our burdens and start the new year by making rest our resolution.

Resolving to rest this year is remembering God’s yoke is…

  1.   Not  .

Rest in Christ comes when we give up our desire to justify ourselves before God, quit trying to earn God’s love and acceptance through our own meager efforts, and sacrifice our need to become righteous by virtue of our own strength and power.

When we unburden our hearts, we find respite as we connect with him through the slowed, quiet, or fun places of our lives, the places in which we aren’t striving but can simply be.

Resolving to rest this year is remembering God’s yoke is…

  1.   Not  .

Trusting in the providential care of God is a direct means to experiencing Christ’s rest in our lives.

There is a hidden danger when we attempt to present a facade of “calmness” without recognizing the emotional turmoil we’re experiencing and acknowledging our need for help—we can end up causing ourselves more harm than good.
