Follow Along with the Message

Generosity is a concept easily defined but not so easily lived out.

The word “generous” as used in the Bible means, “To show mercy or favor, to be freely gracious.”

  1. Giving Stems From the Heart

Notice Paul did not say, “Each one must do as he has deliberated in his mind.”

Philippians 2:13 reads, “For it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.”

Warren Wiersbe says, "Giving is not something we do, but something we are."

  1. Giving Blossoms into Commitment

Remember the question posed last week…God what do you want me to keep?

Your commitment to give is based on your relationship with God Himself.

Eugene Peterson in The Message Bible describes the act of cheerful giving. He wrote “God loves it when the giver delights in the giving.”

C.S. Lewis said, “I do not believe one can settle how much he ought to give. I am afraid the only safe rule is to give more than he can spare.”
