At Sinai

3 months.  Extraordinary events of the Exodus.  Some grumbling.  They come to Sinai.

10 words.  10 commandments.  Unchanging moral laws.

     "Until Heaven and Earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Law until all is accomplished" (Matthew 5:18).

Real event.  As real as the cross or resurrection.

Building a nation.  "Unless the Lord build a house, they labor in vain who build it"(Psalm 127:1).

--At Sinai, He taught them to FEAR.

     "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom"(Psalm 111:10).

     "But to this one I will look, to him who is humble and contrite of spirit, and who trembles at My word"(Isaiah 66:2).

     "In order that the fear of Him will remain with you, so that you may not sin"(Exodus 20:20).

--At Sinai, He taught them to TRUST.

     "I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of slavery. . ."(Exodus 20:1).

     "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding"(Proverbs 3:5).

--At Sinai, He taught them to OBEY.

     In the commandments, "you" is singular.

     Truth is not "in" me, it is "above" me.

     "That it might be well with you"(Deuteronomy 12:28).

     Spiritual Justice--"Against you, and you only, I have sinned and done what is evil in Your sight"(Psalm 51:4).

--At Sinai, He taught them to HOPE.

     "I will give you a new heart and I will put My Spirit within you" (Ezekiel 36:26).

     "I baptize you with water. . .He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire"(Matthew 3:11).

     "Christ in you, the hope of glory"(Colossians 1:27).

--At Sinai, He taught them to TEACH OTHERS

     “These words. . .you shall teach them to your sons and daughters: (Deuteronomy 6:6-7)

     “Go into all the world and make disciples, teaching them to obey all that I have commanded you” (Matthew 28:19).
