His name was Achan.  "Trouble"

 

Lived in a holy moment of history.  Many miracles.  Undeniable.

 

Clear directives.  No looting.

 

Power and protection removed.  Israel defeated by Ai (small city).

 

     "He (Samson) did not know that the Lord had left him" (Judges 16:20).

 

Joshua panics (v. 6).

 

Begins a slow process to identify and correct the sin.

 

Ananias and Sapphira (Acts 5).

 

 

The ANGER of God

 

     "The anger of the Lord burned" (v.1).

 

     "The Lord turned from the fierceness of His anger" (v. 26).

 

     Nose/nostril.  Burning. 

 

     "But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear" (Isaiah 59:2).

 

 

The ABSENCE of God

 

     " I will not be with you anymore" (v. 12).

 

     "He gave them over" (Romans 1:26).

 

     "Do not cast me away from your presence or take the Holy Spirit from me" (Psalm 51:11).

 

     The glory leaving Temple (Ezekiel 10).

 

 

The ACTIONS Required

 

     "Produce fruit in keeping with your repentance.  And do not think you can say to yourselves, 'We have Abraham as our father.'  I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham' " (Matthew 3:8-9).

 

 

 

The ASSURANCE of Mercy

 

     "Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord" (Acts 3:19).

     "This is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil" (John 3:19).
