Tim Mackie points out, “It was during their time in the wilderness that the Israelites were to build their trust in God‘s provision and protection.”

The wilderness teaches us the importance of…

1.     the  .

Richard Foster wrote in his book Celebration of Discipline, “More than any other discipline, fasting reveals the things that control us. This is a wonderful benefit to the true disciple who longs to be transformed into the image of God.”

David Mathis said, “Christian fasting seeks to take the pains of hunger and transpose them into the key of some eternal anthem, whether it’s fighting against some sin, or pleading for someone’s salvation, or for the cause of the unborn, or longing for a greater taste of Jesus.”

The true purpose of fasting is to set aside something of value or that is a potential distraction while you seek to deepen your relationship with your heavenly Father.

Through fasting we are reminded of our constant need for God. In the wilderness we learn to fast past our temptations.
