This Sunday, Ray Jones will be our guest worship leader, and we will share the elements of the Lord's Supper. The sacrament of the Lord’s Supper, also known as Communion, the Last Supper, or even the Holy Meal, is an event that Jesus and his disciples participated in on the night of his betrayal. It is recounted, from different perspectives and with different details, in all four Gospels: Mark 14, Matthew 26, Luke 22, and John 13.

In Luke’s account of the Lord’s Supper the commandment is communicated the most clearly. Jesus commanded, “Do this in remembrance of me” (22:19), in reference to the eating of bread and drinking of the cup. The commandment is very clear: “Do this.” But not just simply “Do this,” as in some sort of thoughtless routine or activity. Jesus says, “Do this in remembrance of me.” Jesus gave this sacrament to the church to do something solely for the sake of remembering His sacrifice for us.

The word sacrament is related to the word sacred. There is something sacred about participating in the Lord’s Supper. When Jesus commanded us to do this (partake in the Lord’s Supper) in remembrance of him, he was giving a commandment that is both sacred and rememberable. This Sunday we will remember!

God is on the Move,

Jason
